President points out business, entrepreneurship opportunities

Inaugurating 35th World Fashion Convention in Lahore, President Dr Arif Alvi said that economy is growing as foreign investors’ interest in Pakistani market is increasing in the wake of vast business and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Around 180 delegates are attending the three-day convention in which various activities, including exhibitions, seminars and conferences have been arranged. In collaboration with the International Apparel Federation, the Pakistan Readymade Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association is hosting the convention for the first time in Lahore.

Speaking on the occasion, President Dr Arif Alvi said that the business activities had great potential to grow with the improved security situation and huge workforce. He said that there is an opportunity for investors as Pakistan’s ease of doing business ranking had improved significantly, which depicted the government’s commitment for economic revival.

He said that the market is expanding and it is right time that youth should be given chance to explore opportunities. Lahore being a historical city had significant cultural value with its old buildings, the president said and urged the foreign delegates to enjoy the city life in Pakistan and also explore scenic beauty of its northern areas.

PREGMEA Chief Coordinator Ijaz Khokhar said that All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, Pakistan Textile Exporters Association, Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association, All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, Pakistan Bedwear Exporters Association, Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association and the Towel Manufacturers Association of Pakistan are participating in the event.

He also said that the world renowned speakers, fashion designers, buyers, brands and fashion houses are attending the fashion show featuring panel discussions, lectures and workshops about the textile and garment industry. Ijaz Khokhar said that the main focus is to highlight soft image of Pakistan besides updating participants about what Pakistan is producing, and ensure interaction among Pakistani exporters and global textile chains.

The organizers said that the mega event would establish friendship and connections, exchanging of business cards and ideas, making individual relationships grow stronger with rest of the world. They called the event as a large scale social networking opportunity for both foreigners and locals.

GLOBAL FASHION AWARD: Before the start of the event, the IAF regional president announced to hold Global Fashion Award 2019, saying that it would be the largest sustainable fashion competition aimed at educating young fashion designers about design techniques and theories, besides providing a platform in the spotlight for the aspiring designers.

The competition would challenge young designers to put their creative powers to the test by proving their ability to transform textile waste into wearable, appealing and commercially viable products. The top 10 finalists would be presenting their creations at the Gala Dinner.
