PM asks foreign firms to take benefit from Pakistan’s e-commerce policy

Prime Minister Imran Khan invited foreign companies to invest in Pakistan taking benefit from the country’s huge business opportunities under the new e-commerce policy.

In a meeting with Huawei’s Supervisory Board Chairman Li Jie along with his delegation, at the PM Office in Islamabadhe urged them to involve brilliant young minds of Pakistan working in technical fields.

The prime minister also highlighted the availability of inexpensive labor and competent and enterprising youth potential of the country which would help the foreign countries to further grow. He said that expertise in providing import substitution and advancement in technical automation operation launched in collaboration with students of NUST and GIK would be of great advantage.

Chairman Li Jie informed the prime minister about the progress being made by the company in the network domain. They have successfully established a new ecosystem so as to become independent of reliance on companies enjoying the monopoly in the field. The possibility of relocation of manufacturing units to Pakistan also came under discussion.

Li Jie said that he was really impressed with the intellect of the Pakistani students, who were running a program of merit awards to the students of NAMAL. Board of Investment Chairman Zubair Haider Gillani, Commerce Secretary Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera and IT Secretary Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui were present.

PAK EXPORTS TO CHINA INCREASESDuring an interview with China Economic Net, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce, Industries, Textile and Investment Abdul Razaq Dawood said that Pakistani exports to China would increase considerably after the implementation of the second phase of the ChinaPakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA) by December 1, 2019.

He said that the China International Import Expo (CIIE) Shanghai provides a good opportunity for Pakistani exporters to showcase their products in the second-largest import market of China. The adviser, along with commerce ministers of various countries, attended the inauguration ceremony of the Import Expo in Shanghai, inaugurated by President Xi Jinping.

Adviser also met with officials of Suzhou Water Purification Equipment Company that is working with Nestle and Pepsi and is one of renowned water desalination plants manufacturer, Anhui Easy Business Digital Technology Company that provides e-government, e-ports and digitalisation services to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of China Customs, Northern Heavy Industries Group, the largest equipment supplier to cement, steel and mining.

Around 63 countries registered for the exhibition and over 3,000 businesses from more than 150 countries are attending the expo. This year’s expo includes two key categories i.e. country pavilions and business stalls. 35 exporters from Pakistan have displayed their products in the expo. The total covered area of exhibition halls is more than 300,000 square meters and more than 150 countries are participating.
